Winter is Coming to Barrington/ North Schaumburg!
Winter storms are usually known to be closing in days in advance, allowing everyone to make last-minute preparations for the predicted storm. However, it is always wise to be generally prepared for any possible future winter storm.
Here are a few examples of storm preparation tips and essential items:
A flashlight with extra batteries will be a lifesaver if a power outage leaves you in the dark. This allows you to find other essential items you should be keeping on hand. For example: blankets, gloves, boots in case you need to go outside, and other items to keep you comfortable without heat or power.
If you have a fireplace, extra firewood is key for both heat and light. If you are lucky enough to have a generator, keep extra gas safely stored. These gloves, boots, and flashlights will come in handy here as wood, gas, and generators are typically stored outside the home.
Last but certainly not least, fresh water and nonperishable food items that do not require preparation are essential to keeping up your energy in case you become unable to travel due to snow or other harsh weather conditions.
