The Different Types of Storms

Blizzards and Hurricanes and Tornadoes- Oh My!
There are numerous different types of storms, including blizzards, dust storms, hurricanes, and tornadoes. Some storms are similar, such as blizzards and dust storms. Both involve high winds moving many small particles through the air (snow for snowstorms and dust for dust storms). However, a dust storm is more likely in an arid location like a desert- we don’t see these in Barrington. While a dust storm may lead to breathing and lung difficulties if the dust is consumed over long periods of time, a blizzard can lead to hypothermia or frostbite if out in the elements for too long of a time.
Tornadoes and hurricanes are both high wind events leading to damage of property as they form in cylindrical patterns. With these storms, in addition to the high winds causing property damage as they push and move property around, they both can lead to heavy rain and flooding. The severe weather we see in Barrington are mostly that of tornadoes and blizzards. With winter approaching, remember that blizzards impact driving and could lead to treacherous travel conditions, and extreme cold weather health issues.
